Gretna Green, first and last town in Scotland has grown increasingly popular with runaway couples who want a romantic wedding performed over the anvil.
The area is steeped in romantic history since the Marriage Act of 1754, which decreed that In England & Wales, the wedding ceremony had to take place in Church and couples had to be 21 years of age to marry without the consent of their parents.
Many young couples used to elope to Gretna Green to be married in Scotland at 16 and although the law has changed, the tradition remains. |
